An enormously fun project to work on.
We've all been to immersive experiences where we weren't quite sure what was expected of us - a first-time visitor can feel like they've 'failed' because expectations about what they are supposed to focus on and what is expected of them in terms of their movements hadn't been adequately designed or communicated.
Guiding and creating a hierarchy of visitor focus is therefore a key element of any multiple touch point experience, but is often overlooked.
Working with the hugely talented Savva 'Maestro' Mihaescu we developed the visuals and sound in tandem, working in the same room and responding to each other's outputs in a slow motion conversation. It was important from the outset that with the all-encompassing nature of an immersive arena, that the final piece felt like a singular entity - neither image nor sound should be wholly dominant.
With these projects, we seek to define working principles for maximising the impact of a 360 degree story, using the spaces they are presented in as unique instruments themselves so that you are working with - not fighting against - the building's character, avoiding overwhelm and 'switching' where audiences are trying to keep up with what they should be focusing on.
They aim to orientate as well as entertain, guide as well as encourage exploration, and create sensations and interplays not possible in other mediums.
We look forward to sharing more here soon!
